Come out for a run at Eagle Rock Reservation, in West Orange, NJ, on Saturday, May 12 — the day before the Billygoat!
HVO will have a training course available: 5.6 km / 50 controls; or try it as a score O — see how many can you get in 60 minutes. Or just pick-and-choose which controls to visit as you go (just be sure to be back by 3pm)
As this event will be very low-key, there will only be streamers and (possibly) old style pin punches at each control location; self-timing only.
Please Note: Although orienteers of all abilities are welcome, there will be no easy (W/Y/O) courses or beginners instruction.
Time: 10am-1pm in the picnic area of Eagle Rock Reservation. Please be back by 3pm.
Cost: $3 per map.
Course designed by Nadya Popova.
From the Garden State Pkwy, take Exit 145 to I-280 West
From I-80 Eastbound, take Exit 47A to I-280 East.
Then, from either direction of I-280, take Exit 8B for Prospect Ave / Rte 577 North. After 0.4-0.6 mi, turn right at the 3rd traffic light onto Eagle Rock Ave. Go 0.4 mi and turn left into the Eagle Rock Reservation entrance (just after beginning of divided highway).
Google Maps – Use “Highlawn Pavilion” as destination; should give address as Crest Drive, West Orange, NJ. This should get you to the park entrance.
Please note that, due to the low-key nature of this event, no “O” (road) signs will be posted! So, once in the park…
If parking near the pavilion is unavailable, continue to where the road becomes one-way; pass the 9/11 Memorial and Highlawn Pavilion restaurant, then turn left and park on the right where the road widens out for parking (you might have seen this area on the way in). Then, on foot, take path near south end of lot to the west (right) to picnic area; while we won’t be as conspicuous as at a regular event, we should be near (or in) the pavilion.
